Alison is the Marketing and Publishing Manager in the Communications Marketing and Information Service department. She works as part of the CMIS team to produce published NFER documents for circulation in house and for distribution and/or sale out of house, being responsible for editorial standards and scheduling. She is responsible for coordinating the team’s marketing effort so that the results of NFER research reach the people who need to know about them, and for developing publishing projects that will help the NFER reach wider markets with research in education and children's services. In addition, Alison is the Editor of practical research for education (formerly Topic), the NFER’s journal for headteachers, teachers and local authority staff, and has responsibility for special projects such as the NFER's annual report.

Following a degree in publishing and modern languages, Alison worked as an editorial manager in academic publishing for ten years. Following completion of her part-time MBA, she worked for two years as an HE/FE lecturer in publishing and marketing, during which time she advised on the compilation of National Occupational Standards for the publishing industry and was involved in the publishing National Training Organisation. Her PhD concerns the use of ICT in the UK publishing industry, and the way that organisations adapt flexibly to meet the needs of a changing electronic environment.
