Hanna is a Senior Research Officer in the Department for Research in Assessment and Measurement specialising in mathematics assessment.


Joined NFER in 2000 as an Assistant Research Officer and has since worked on a number of assessment projects including 2003 and 2004 statutory mathematics tests for Wales (Key Stages 2 and 3). Has developed various tests and other assessment materials, some of them incorporating ICT. Taught 10- to 12-year-olds in Helsinki, Finland.


Numeracy, Assessment, Research methods and statistics


Research methodologies, sociocultural issues in international research, use of manipulatives in mathematics education, intuitive learning. Has experience of running professional development workshops for teachers in the UK and in Finland. Is a member of the General Council, and the overseas links person, for the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM).
