In 2001 Jonathan joined the Design Team at the NFER progressing from Designer to Deputy Design Manager in 2007. As Deputy Design Manager Jonathan supports Stuart Gordon in the day-to-day running of the team and has specific responsibility for certain design projects.
Within the Design Team he has worked on all of the design projects within DRAM, including National Curriculum Assessments (statutory and optional), and on many projects for other departments within the foundation. His key areas of work have been the international projects TIMSS and PIRLS as well as more recently developing skills for multimedia and computer based learning and testing materials. He has also spent considerable time working on detailed documents for national test materials for several UK countries.
Jonathan has strong technical skills in all the relevant software used in the design team as well as excellent skills in pre-press production methods such as Pass4Press set-ups.
Prior experience and professional background
Jonathan has a broad design background having initially trained as a Product Designer at the University of Salford. He has worked on a variety of commercial projects both here in the UK and, whilst on an exchange programme, at The Institute of Design - Lahti University of Applied Sciences (Finland). These have allowed him to gain considerable knowledge of the varied aspects of Graphic, Product, Interface, Exhibition, Medical and Architectural design.
He developed his interest in Graphic Design whilst at university and expanded this when he completed his MA in Heritage Studies by joining a well known high street printing franchise. This company allowed Jonathan to work with international clients developing their corporate identity as well as small local companies looking for new branding and marketing solutions.
Jonathan has designed for for clients such as Vodafone, Ericsson, Hilton Hotels and Dell Computers, Tarmac, The MOD and Nokia.
