Alternative provision for young people with special educational needs
Client: LGA | NFER Contact: Kerry Martin
This study, for the Local Government Association, aims to provide evidence of successful approaches to supporting young people with SEN in alternative provision. It will include five local authority case studies and involve face-to-face interviews with alternative provision and local authority staff, young people and their parents and carers. The study will explore the following key questions:
• How is alternative provision identified for pupils with SEN (up to age 19) and how is it matched to individual pupils’ needs?
• What are the core elements of successful approaches to alternative provision for young people with SEN and do these differ from approaches to supporting pupils without SEN?
• What are the lessons in relation to supporting young people with SEN in alternative provision that can be shared with the sector?
